I had thought old age would bring me the finer things in life, like a small staircase at the foot of Mother and Father’s bed to help me climb up without having to jump; or chicken broth in my kibble to soften it; or more frequented walks; or heck, maybe some freaking pain meds that would make the world feel like it had when I was a puppy. Those were all the things my older friends at the park had bragged about when they told him what to expect in my elderly years, and it was the only thing that made reaching my tenth birthday something to...

Thanks Belladona! I'm glad they both held up on their own. I didn't expect the reaction to either stories to be so warm. But something about family dogs is, like you say, they're so wholesome. There's an innocence and a touch of humanity in them. I've enjoyed playing with these characters! Thanks for taking the time to read both! Putting your story on my priority read for this week!
This is really cute. Animal stories are the best. Beo deserves better, poor thing. He deserves all the medicine he needs to be an old dog. I was worried that this story was going to go in a dark direction about the unfortunate practice of human parents getting a new puppy right before putting down an older dog, especially because there was clear favoritism towards the puppy, but I’m glad it stayed lighthearted and ended with the two dogs bonding.
Thanks for reading Luciano! You definitely picked up on the underlining darkness of this storyline. I was certainly thinking of how humans bring in a puppy as a sort of transition for the older one's death, which is where the idea first started. But since Beowulf is a character inspired by my own dog, there's no way I could end it unfavorably for him. I love him way too much. Glad you enjoyed it, thanks again!

Awwwww!!! 🥰🥰 I love this so much, AnneMarie!! Beo makes the best big brother and his lessons for Kronos are heartwarming. Such a sweet tale of their bonding 🐶 ❤️🐶
Thank you for reading, Nina! My Beowulf stories have developed a mind of their own! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was very close to not getting this out on time! Lol!
Yeah, I have been feeling less than inspired lately so mine have cut close too. I’m so glad you got this one in! I just love it 😍
This was a really sweet continuation of the other Beowolf story. You captured the obvious parallels with a human child coming to terms with a younger sibling, but it's super clever how you intertwine the instincts of the dog and its unwavering subservience to the human owners throughout. It's all done in such a charming way, it feels like you could get a hundred stories out of this. Amazing work AnneMarie. You should keep building on the concept
Thank you, Tom! I actually find these puppy stories difficult to write for some reason but it was the only idea I had for this week 😅. There's a sort of pressure to do all of the characters justice when rewriting them, but I suppose that's good practice to writing longer pieces. I appreciate you taking the time to go back and revisit Beowulf on his latest adventure. Thanks for the kind words!
He is a good dog 🐕
Great doggie tail.My elderly cat passed and the younger one ( okay, he is elderly, too, at 11 but she was 21) anyway, he has acted so lonely ever since we keep wondering if we should bring in another companion. Don' t think he would be as sympathetic towards a newbie as Beo.

I loved that!
