"Thank you for contacting Purgo, where we keep memories alive! Your call is very important to us and your loved one. We are currently experiencing longer than average wait times. Please hold, or if you know your parties extension you may dial it at anytime."Smooth jazz erupted after the automated message."If I didn't know better, I'd think I'm the one that is in hell," Logan removed his glasses and massaged his forehead with his fingers. Thought I'd see you on the board this morning! Congratulations 🎉
Thank you! Saw you on the board too! Very much deserved!
This is amazing. Only read it by now (Nov 3), but I know it’s a great story. Has an interesting mix of genres about lost ones, the struggles in inflation, and purgatory matters. (Well I don’t believe in purgatory anyways.) That anger and regret of not saying goodbye to your lost love one, it was expressed clearly here. The “call” message was daunting too, to hear. I wish you good luck at your next submissions. I really like this one! Thanks for the story, truly amazing!
Thank you for the kind words! I’m really proud of this story. I had so much fun writing it. I thought the mixing of call centers, corporate greed, and purgatory would make for a fun read. I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for reading and commenting! I’ll head over to your page after work!
Thanks for the story. :) Also thanks for reading my message!
Fine work. Congrats.
Thank you for reading and commenting!
Welcome.
Ahh...the purgatory of call waiting. Honestly, this was a great read and meaningful as well. Even when we think we have more time to tell our loved ones what we often never tell them in life, we can still run out of time. Congrats on the short list.
It really is the never ending tragedy of life that we are bound to deal with loss at one point or another. Thank you for reading!

I have a lot of family that are Catholic and I’ve done some scholarly research on Catholicism, but I don’t prescribe to the ideology or the faith necessarily. Perhaps it was overt on the Catholic themes. I’ll be sure to tag the Christian tag the next time I delve into a Christian themed story though! Thanks for reading and for the feedback! Heading over to your page!
I was raised Catholic but am no longer one. I only recommended the tag because having more tags can help your story be seen by more people :) And if the judges like it and recommend it, it has a higher chance of staying up there til Friday if there are more tags ;)
Good to know! I’ll make like an urban artist and tag it up! Thank you for the advice!
Welcome to Reedsy and so nice to be shortlisted immediately. Congrats🥳. Captured how we all feel about automated messages, etc.
I’m so glad you read it and enjoyed it! It was so much fun to write! I’m really proud of it!
Congratulations on the shortlist!
Thank you, RJ!
This is so tragic! The things we take for granted...
Truly! You never know what tomorrow holds. Thank you for reading!
