Talk is Cheap

Content

Twenty years it took me. Twenty long, hard years. Twenty years to discern the meaning of just a few small words. But then, that’s living and living is all we’ve got. “You’ve got this,” my Mother said these words whilst wearing a pained smile and then she let go of her very last breath, letting go of my hand and her mortal coil as that warm air wheezed out of...

Outstanding reviews

We don't always realize the depth of love our mothers feel for us, taking it for granted at times. As parents we can see that reflected in our children. Life is bittersweet.
We are all guilty of taking so much for granted. We bowl through life and miss so much of the obvious. We mistake movement for living. I only learnt recently that our mothers carry us in one shape or form for all of their lives until we are born. Our origins are within our mother's mother. Thank you for your words. Glad you liked the story.
Very powerful writing, Jed.I particularly liked this sentence: « She’d delivered the body of the joke and left me to work out the punchline all by myself »The story feels extremely personal/intimate.Thank you for sharing…
Thanks for the feedback Shirley, I'm very glad it hit the spot. Now you've highlighted that sentence, it's invited me to revisit it. I think sometimes we've also been given the punchline too, but we didn't really get the joke. At some point later in our lives we return to the joke and engage with it in a different way and we keep going until we understand it. Better still, is the moment when we get the joke and OK maybe we don't laugh, but there is a happiness and joy to it all the same.
I was 69 when my Mom passed at 96. No matter the age this wisdom holds true. Thank you, Jed.Was a pleasure to read. I fall so far behind on reading the people I follow I usually only choose one of yours. I know they are all excellent.
I'm glad this story hit the spot. I was hoping you'd read it. Thanks.
Powerful writing Jed. I think many of can relate to this a lot. Definitely a moving read. Beautiful work. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Tom. I love this one. I'm glad it hit the spot and you appreciated it.
I saw the life seep away from her and I wondered where it went- this line resonated with me. I still wonder where it went every time I lose someone I love.
I firmly believe that we are gifted a little piece of it. People live on in our hearts. We have moments where we feel them there and know this to be true.
It's so nice to see a story with the Romance tag that isn't that kind of Romance. The love of mother for child and the other way round is beautiful and pure, and needs more stories to address it. 💞This was wonderful and sad and beautiful and I love it. 💙❤️🩷💖
Thank you! I couldn't have put any better myself. This was a love story and I didn't hesitate when I chose the Romance tag. I'm glad it resonated with you!
