“The white people are at it again, Professor King.” Hiraya deadpanned as soon as she found her favorite librarian.Professor Isagani King burst into laughter, interrupting the miniature tutoring he’d been giving a student. “Apologies. Do you think you understand the material now? I can come back to help later if you need it.” He crooned softly to the student he’d been with before Hiraya entered. Hiraya picked at her dark purple uniform sweater as she waited.“I think I’ve got it now! Thank you, Professor ...
Outstanding reviews
I really enjoyed reading this short story. Your characters are well thought out, especially the librarian, and you do a great job of providing important details as it relates to the university. I really liked the back story of the school and the occult because it added intrigue without bogging down the story. I agree that the ending was abrupt though still fairly satisfactory. Well done!
I’m glad you like it! There’s another story in this contest that’s in the same universe as this one, though they both stand alone, if you want to check them out
This was interesting! So many details and backstory that I think it could be expanded into a bigger project. Im guessing the librarian knows more than they're telling. Oh and this line made me chuckle: "Gravity is most definitely a cat lover, after all, and has a special hatred for turtles.” Thanks for sharing!
Thanks AnneMarie! I’m so glad you like it! I definitely want it to be a bigger project at some point, but for now I’m enjoying writing multiple standalone short stories about these characters, all who are more connected than they know.
From the first sentence, I was hooked! This would be great anthologized on a modern horror streaming anthology like Black Mirror, AHS, or Peele’s Twilight Zone reboot. Terrific across multiple genres, and the academic background plays flawlessly. 👍👍
Thanks, Martin!! I’m really glad you liked it, I hoped the first sentence would stand out, I’m glad it did! I definitely would love to do more short stories in this setting with these characters a la episodes of the twilight zone.
I’d love that!
